February 12, 1890 ----- February 3, 1981

Mass was celebrated for Alice Thorpe at St. John's Catholic Church on Saturday morning at 10.30. Burial was in St John's Cemetery and Father Cecil McSweeney was the celebrant. A rosary was said at the Eyler-Willim Funeral Home on Friday evening. The church choir provided special music and Mrs. R. F. McCool was the organist. Bearers were James O. Herde, Mike Thomas, Robert Marxer, Jerry Rabey and Jerry Deimerly.

Mary Alice Laird was born at Fort Dodge on February 12, 1890 and was the daughter of W. W. and Mary Harrington Laird She was raised at Eagle Grove and graduated from high school there in 1908. She then worked as a bookkeeper for a grain company there. On April 26, 1916 she was married to A. R. Thorpe at Eagle Grove. After World War #1 they moved to Clarion. From 1923-1965 they operated the Thorpe Hatchery. Mr. Thorpe died in 1967. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Ruth) Rabey of Balch Springs, Texas, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her parents, one brother and one sister preceded her in death. Mrs. Thorpe died at the Clarion Care Center on Tuesday, February 3, 1981. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, St. Ann's Circle and the Tringold Club.
