Funeral Mass for Shirley W. Parks was celebrated at St. John’s Catholic Church on Saturday afternoon at two o’clock by Rev. Cecil McSweeney. Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery and a rosary was said at the Eyler-Willim Funeral Home on Friday evening. St. John’s Choir provided special music and Mrs. Robert. F. McCool was the organist. Bearers were Paul Thul, Wm. Thul, Donald Thul, Jerry Parks, Donald Parks and Merle Whipple. Honorary bearers were Pat Thul, Duane and Dale Whipple, Martin Larsen, Morris, Stanley and Eugene Parks and Charles Harris.Mr. Parks was born on a farm north of Clarion on June 22, 1902 and was the son of William and Mathilda Parks. He was raised and educated in the Clarion area. On May 12, 1924 he was married to Lillian Thul at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion. For many years he operated Parks Tire and Battery Service and later added a service station on Central Ave. East. He had been a patient at the Community Memorial Hospital for three weeks before his death on Thursday morning.
His wife survives with a daughter, Mrs. Ken (Shirley) Groninga of Sheldon. There are also six grandchildren, two brothers, Wesley of Hampton, Russell of Iowa City, and two sisters, Mrs. Irene Kuns of Hampton and Mrs. Ruby Whipple of Belmond. His parents, one brother and a daughter, Norma Jean Arndorfer preceded him in death.
He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. Those from our of town who attended the funeral services came from Sheldon, Humboldt, Mason City, Manly, Hampton, Charles City, Iowa City, Goldfield, Eagle Grove, Belmond, Thor, Fort Dodge and South Bend, Indiana.
