Fern Luella Willand, age 90, of rural Lake Mills, died Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, 7/20/2016, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice, IA, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Tuesday evening at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills, IA, 50450, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Sion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lake Mills, IA.

Fern Luella (Morris) Willand, daughter of William and Elva (Sims) Morris, was born on May 13, 1926. She was baptized and confirmed at United Methodist EUB Church in Meservey, IA. She attended school in Meservey and graduated from Meservey High School in 1944. Fern attended beauty school in Mason City and worked as a beauty operator in both Clear Lake and Meservey after school.

Fern was united in marriage to Clarence Willand on August 29, 1948. They had three daughters, Pamela, Penny, and Vicki. Fern and Clarence resided in rural Lake Mills for 55 years where she ran Fern’s Beauty Shop out of their home for many years. Fern enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, golfing, crocheting, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She crocheted a baby blanket for each of her great-grandchildren and loved to sit on her front deck and watch the world go by.

Fern is survived by her daughter Penny Nelson of Lake Mills, IA; daughter Vicki Bartlett and her husband Dave of Forest City, IA; son-in-law Mike Graham of Maryville, MO; seven grandchildren; Jennifer Graham Zimmerman (Dan), Jeremy Nelson (Christina), Rachel Nelson (Jeff), Amanda Graham Langston (Mike), Anthony Nelson (Miranda), Andrea Bartlett Severson (James), and Samantha Bartlett. She is also survived by fifteen great-grandchildren: Broden, Ryder, and Hartford Zimmerman; Broderick, Brooklynn and Brayden Nelson; Madison, and Ava Benesch; Andrew, Tate, Parker and Rose Langston; Sophia Gulick, Camdon, and Calvin Nelson; sister Wilma Hulick; brother-in-law Leslie Pals; and sister-in-law Myrtle Tapps. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Elva Morris; husband Clarence Willand; daughter Pamela Graham; and siblings Mervin Morris, Marvin Morris, and Norma Pals.
