February 9, 1884 ---- September 18, 1962

Dr. Felix B. Ross, one of the Midwest's foremost educators and among the most prominent of all Buena Vista college alumni, passed away Tuesday at the home of his sister-in-law, Miss Aura Garberson, 303 East Lakeshore Drive. Dr Ross was well known in Storm Lake through his marriage to the former Rena Garberson. He had been subject of heart attacks the past 6 years. He had been confined to Buena Vista county hospital at frequent intervals. A sudden attack Tuesday night resulted in his demise. He had attained the age of 78 years. Dr Ross was preceded in death by two sons who died in infancy.

Dr. and Mrs. Ross made their home in Emporia, Kansas, spending the summers in Storm Lake with Mrs Ross' sisters, Miss Aura Garberson and Mrs. B.G. Strawn. Survivors include his widow, Rena; two sisters, Mrs Phillip Peak of Estherville and Mrs. Oscar Hackbarth of McAllen, Texas.

Services will be held from Lakeside Presbyterian church Friday. Burial will be in the Storm Lake cemetery. A large group of friends from Emporia, Kansas, the home of Dr and Mrs Ross the past 40 years, is expected to attend.

Dr. Ross was a native of Clarion, Iowa. He received his B.A. in 1911 from Buena Vista college and an M.A. from the University of Iowa in 1913. He took 3 years of graduate work at the Universities of Chicago, Iowa, Leland, Stanford, CA at Berkley.

Dr. and Mrs. Ross have set up a natural history reservation of 1040 acres in Lyon county, Kansas for the use of the biology department of the Kansas State Teachers college at Emporia. Two hundred acres of this has been deeded as a permanent nucleus for the college. Dr. Ross served 3 terms in the Kansas House of Representatives; member of the Education committee of the US Chamber of commerce for 3 years.
