Howard Luther Rasmussen was born near Goldfield on February 16, 1909. He received his education at
country school and farmed with his family. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Wilson on February 16, 1931, at Eagle Grove. The couple made their home on a farm near Hardy where he raised livestock and was later a grain farmer. In their retirement, they moved to the Meadows at Clarion in 1993 until moving to the Long Term Care Facility at the Clarion Community Hospital. He was a member of the Hardy Methodist Church and later the Renwick Methodist Church. He served as a Church Board Member, a former Hardy Town Council Member, a member of the Masonic Lodge and senior citizens.

Howard Luther Rasmussen, of Clarion, formerly of Hardy, died Monday, July 13, 1998 at the Clarion Community Hospital in Clarion at the age of 89. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, Clarion; three sons. Gerald of Goldfield, Donald of Webster City, and David of New Hampton; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Madlyn Papot of Huntsville, Ala. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rose and Alice; and three brothers. John, Lyman, and Alfred. Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 16, 1998 at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Renwick with the Reverend Karen Dearchs and the Reverend Charles Kellogg officiating. Burial was at Vernon Township Cemetery, Hardy. A Masonic Service was held on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Mason Lindhart Funeral Home, Humboldt. Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home. Humboldt, was in charge of the arrangements.
