Funeral services for John N. Kolb, longtime Latimer businessman, were held from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Latimer on Monday at 11 a.m. Rev. Dennis Arndt officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. The Willim Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Kolb died at the Sheffield Care Center on April 3, 1986 at the age of 92. He had been a patient there since March 24.

John was born at Crocker in Polk County on January 11, 1894 and was the son of Adam and Lousia Enabnit Kolb. He moved with his family to Meservey in 1896. On October 15, 1914 he was married to Emma Petersen at Latimer and they farmed near Meservey. In 1924 they moved to Latimer where he started the John N. Kolb Hardware Store. He retired in 1958. Surviving are four sons: Kenneth of Thornton, Vincent of Latimer, Darrell of Thornton and Harlyn of Charles City, six grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and one step-great grandchild, and a sister, Lydia Waddingham of Meservey. His parents, one sister, a daughter-in-law and his wife preceded him in death. John was a former School Board and City Council member and was a charter member of the Latimer Commercial Club.
