Mrs. J. L. Boyd was born in Sedgfield, Durham County England, April 27th, 1850. She was united in marriage to Mr. Boyd in Stockton on Tees, Durham County England in1867. A year later Mr. and Mrs. Boyd came to the United States and moved to Iowa in 1873. They are the parents of thirteen children, five of whom survive. She is also survived by her husband, J. L. Boyd, 22 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. The children surviving are, John W. Boyd, Chadron, Neb.; Mrs. John Bates, Brazil, Iowa; Mrs. J. C. Nicely, Auburn, Kansas; Mrs. C. F. Coffin, Goodland, Kansas; Mrs. Dr. Norris, Eagle Grove. Her grandson, James Smith whom she has raised from infancy is now with the A. E. F. in France.
The funeral services were held at the home Wednesday, April 30th, and the burial was in Rose Hill cemetery. The service was in charge of Rev. Dr. Charles of Omaha, Neb. Mrs. G. A. Norris of Numa, Iowa and Dr. Charles of Omaha, sang at the funeral services.
Mrs. Boyd was a sincere christian woman, and devoted her entire time and energy to the best interests of her home and family. Mr. Boyd, and Dr. and Mrs. Norris have the sincere sympathy of their friends in their sorrow.
