Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 18 at the Kastler-Babcock-DeYoung Funeral Home for Robert William Bown, who died, August 15 at a Mason City hospital at the age of 85. Rev. Allan Jones officiated, and burial, was at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Robert Bown, son of Jacob and Cinderella Blazor Bown, was born April 12, 1893, at Chariton. He attended school at Mine La Motte.
He served in the Army during W.W. I and was united in marriage with Carrie Baker on May 2, 1922 at the Methodist Parsonage in Eagle Grove. Carrie died in 1948 and he continued to live in Eagle Grove until 1975, when he moved to the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City.
Surviving him is his sister, Dorothy Runyon of Cainsville, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers: Albert, Mayo, and Harold; two sisters: Myrtle Zimmerman and Nora Goben. He worked as a Stationary Engineer for Chicago-Northwestern Railroad until October 1957. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Brotherhood of Fireman and Oilers.
