September 2, 1854 ---- July 19, 1934

Kari Olin Bogsness was born to the parents, Gunder and Sarah Bogsness, Sept. 2, 1854, in Kvindjerd, [Kvinherrad] Norway, and passed away from this life in her home at 519 N. Wright St., July 19, 1934, at the age of 79 years, 10 months, and 17 days. She was baptized into Christ in infancy, received instruction , and confessed her Christian faith in the Husness church. On May 15, 1880, she was united in marriage to Eric Gunderson. About four years later, Mr. and Mrs. Gunderson came to America to Eagle Grove, Iowa, and have lived here continually since. Mr. Gunderson was a trusted employee of the C. & W. Ry. He passed away Dec. 7, 1931.

Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Gunderson, one little boy passing away in infancy. Six are now living, viz: Mrs. Bertha Egesdahl, Buffalo Center, Ia; Gunder Gunderson, Norfolk, Neb.; Mrs. Sarah Baker, Mrs. Julia Roseland, Elmer Gunderson and Clara Gunderson all of Eagle Grove. These together with 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren now mourn the loss they sustain in the passing of Mrs. Gunderson. She is also survived by two brothers, Torgeir Bogsness, stlll in Norway, and Ole Gunderson of Eagle Grove.

Mr. and Mrs. Gunderson were among the charter members of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church, being one of the eight families who on July 25, 1884 together organized the church. From that time to her death, Mrs. Gunderson was vitally interested in the well being of the congregation and faithfully served in whatever capacity the opportunity offered itself. She was by nature a very quiet and reserved character who loved peace and furthered it at all occasions. She loved her Saviour and His Word dearly. The last time she was in church to partake of the Lord's Supper, she was brought home overexerted.

She has now been gradually failing in health, being bedfast for some time, but she never complained. Quietly she slept away Thursday evening, July 19. We had hoped that she would have regained strength sufficiently to be present at the anniversary services, but the Lord willed it otherwise. It is only in body she is present, her soul has gone to be with her loved ones. May we meet her at that great anniversary in our Father’s Kingdom.

Funeral services Sunday afternoon, at the close of the anniversary program, from the church she loved so much. Interment was made in the family lot of the Rose Hill cemetery.
