June 26, 1908 ---- November 29, 1957

James Murray Grieves, youngest son of Harry and Charlena Grieves was born in Steamboat Rock, Iowa June 28, 1908 and passed away at the Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Dodge Nov. 29, 1957 following a heart attack.

After graduating from the Steamboat Rock High School he began his career with the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co Nov. 21, 1928 at Jewell in the construction department. On August 3, 1938 he was united in marriage to Marguerite Temple at Fulton, Ill. To this union one daughter, Mary Kay, was born Sept. 5, 1942.

He entered the Armed Services in May, 1943 and after his return he resumed his work with the Telephone Company as service chief at Guttenberg where he remained until he was transferred to Eagle Grove as manager.

During his residence in Guttenberg he was active in church and community affairs, serving on the official board of the church and a member of the choir. He also served a term there as president of the Rotary Club as well as president of the school board.

On July 26, 1954 he was transferred to Eagle Grove as manager of the Bell Telephone Company, where he and his family have since made their home. He was an active member of the Methodist Church serving on its Official Board as secretary, and as a faithful member of the choir. He was a member of the Rotary Club in Eagle Grove, the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star in Guttenberg. He was president of the Band Booster's Club, a member of the adult education council, the Telephone Pioneer Club, and a newly elected member of the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce of Eagle Grove.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother. Besides his widow. Marguerite, and his daughter Mary, he is survived by one brother, J. W. Grieves of Waterloo, two sisters, Mrs. Julia Johnson of Steamboat Rock and Mrs. Lucy Janssen of Dows.

When such an active and friendly member of the church and community is taken so suddenly as was the case with Mr. Grieves, words cannot express the extent to which he will be missed by his associates, loved ones and dear friends.
