Sam Gorden was born August 3, 1885 in Lygndal, Norway to Sjur and Jorunn Halverson Odegaandeh. He was baptized and confirmed into the triune faith. Sam passed away at Trinity Regional Hospital in Ft. Dodge on Feb. 2, 1976 after reaching the age of 90 years, 5 months, and 29 days.

Sam attended school in Norway. He came to the United States at the age of 21 years and settled near Humboldt, Iowa. In 1917 he was united in marriage to Pauline Thompson Biondahl of Thor. They farmed near Forest City and Eagle Grove before moving to Eagle Grove in 1943. Joined Evangelical Lutheran Church. He retired from farming at the age of 65. In 1971 he became a resident of the Heritage Home in Clarion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 2 brothers; 5 sisters, one daughter in infancy, 1 granddaughter. He leaves to mourn 1 stepson, Manly Biondahl, Thor; 1 son, Sanford Gorden of Stillwater, Minn.; 5 daughters: Mrs. Geneva Rollins, Webster City; Mrs. Donald Peterson, Webster City; Mrs. Denison Hansen, Dakota City; Mrs. Donald Trausch, Belmond; Mrs. Archie Peterson, Fort Dodge; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Feb. 5 at 1:30 p.m. at Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rev. H. W. Schiller. Interment in Rose Hill Cemetery.
