Funeral services for Evert R. McGrath, 84, of Eagle Grove, were held on Wednesday, May 29, 1985 at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, Iowa at 11 a.m. with Rev. Scott C. Hall officiating and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held on Tuesday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.

Evert Robert McGrath, the son of John W. and Mary E. Treadgold McGrath, was born on April 25, 1901 at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He grew up in Eagle Grove and graduated from the Eagle Grove High School in the Class of 1919. He attended and received his Law Degree from Drake University in Des Moines in 1922. On March 25, 1922, he was united in marriage with Mary Frances Donly at Rippey, Iowa. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove and to this union were born four children. Evert was in McGrath and McGrath Law Office and practiced law with his father and later with his son, Don, and was active until his retirement in 1979 due to his poor health. Mr. McGrath had been a resident of the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove since March of 1981. Mrs. McGrath died in 1979.

He was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove and had served on many of the church committees and boards during the past years. He was a member of the Bower Masonic Lodge of Eagle Grove; the Wright County Bar Association; the Iowa State Bar Association; was past president and member of the Eagle Grove Rotary Club; had served on the Eagle Grove school board and airport commission for several years and had served as City Attorney of Eagle Grove for many years.

He died on Friday evening, May 24, at the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove at the age of 84 years and 29 days.

He is survived by a daughter, Frances, Mrs. Donald Mellgren of Stevensville, Mont.; two sons, Don McGrath of Eagle Grove and David McGrath of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; a son, John R. McGrath, who was killed in World War II; a brother, Earl; an infant sister, Edna; and a sister, Edith.
