Donald Emil Trausch, was born Feb. 24, 1919, the son of Alfred and Elizabeth (Fischer) Trausch in Dayton Township of Wright County. He graduated from country school and then served this country in the Army during World War II. He served from Sept. 12, 1941 to Oct. 1, 1945. where he taught 14-man anti-tank defenses. On Sept. 20, 1948 he married June Gorden in Sioux Falls, S.D. They lived in Eagle Grove for a time before . Donald and June moved to Belmond in 1956, where they farmed land northwest of town. In 1979, he retired from farming and moved into a house in Belmond. Donald was a talented man who had a gift to do many things. He was known as an avid woodworker who enjoyed creating lawn decorations for friends and family. He also enjoyed latchhooking.

Donald Trausch died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at his home in Belmond at the age of 81. Survivors include his wife, June, of Belmond; two brothers, Everett, of Webster City; and Richard, of Belmond; three sisters, Elizabeth Trausch, of Clarion; Viola Studer, of Des Moines; and Helen Steffenson, of Oakdale, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Francis and Robert; and three sisters, Margaret, Ethel, and Gladys.

Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2000, at the Tenold Funeral Chapel in Belmond with the Rev. Lowell Halvorson officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove with graveside military rites. The Tenold Funeral Home in Belmond was in charge of the arrangements.
