Arthur A. Smith died at his farm home west of Eagle Grove on Monday, October 12th. He had been suffering from a partial stroke of paralysis for about 3 ½ years. Mr. Smith was born and raised in this community and spent practically his entire life here. He loved machinery and naturally was interested in the automobile, and when it came into general use was one of the early auto salesmen and dealers. He had an inventive kind of mind and registered several patents, some of his inventions being in general use today.
Arthur A. Smith was born April 29, 1875, on a farm near Eagle Grove. His parents were Benjamin Franklin and Mary Smith. He was united in marriage with Lottie Lee [Ley] March 10th, 1896. To this union one child, Joseph Smith, was born. Mrs. Smith died in 1907. In 1909 Mr. Smith married Tillie Johnson Christopher. To this union two children were born, Arthur and Klarize. Mr. Smith's father was one of the founders of the Eagle Grove Methodist church and the deceased was a member of the same church.
Three and a half years ago he was stricken with paralysis. During his long illness he loved and looked forward to visits from his friends and was most grateful for the numerous messages and flowers he received. Surviving are his wife, his daughter, Klarize Smith of Des Moines and his sons, Arthur, Jr., of Eagle Grove and Joe of Dallas, Oregon; one grandson, Joe Smith, Jr., and two brothers, Roy Smith at Page, North Dakota, and Fred Smith of Tower City, North Dakota.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral Home with the Rev. J. R. Tumbleson in charge. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
