Hyacinth Schwenk was born the 9, of December 1825 in Raczerdingen, Hohenzoller, Hechingen, Wuertcmberg, Germany and died the 2 of Feb. 1910. His age being 84 years and 24 days. He came to New York in 1855 where he lived about 10 years, from there he moved to Minnesota where he also stayed about 10 years and in 1871 came to Wright county and located on a piece of land west of town which has been his home till his death. In 1853, in New York, he was married to Elizabeth Benz, 8 children were born unto them, 2 daughters and 6 sons, of which one died when quite young.
In New York in 1854, under the work of Rev. Jacob Kendler, he was converted to God and united with the Methodist Episcopal church of which he has been a member till his death. He was a pious and devoted Christian. Jesus was his hope, and he loved to sing, "Jesus Lover of my Soul".
He was an industrious, hard working man, a kind husband and father, a friend of many that knew him and a good neighbor.
He died at the home of his son, John, which was also his home. He is survived by an aged wife and 7 children, August of N. Dak., Charles, John and Mrs. August Martfeld of this place, Mrs. Theodore Bastian of Charles City, Ia., Edward of Spokane, Wash., and Horace of Humboldt county, Ia.
The funeral services were conducted in the M. E. church Saturday afternoon Feb. 5, by Rev. E. W. Henke of Charles City assisted by Rev. C. E. Chapler. Rev. Henke's discourse was given in German. The pall bearers were D. D. Paine, Grant Trask, Henry Derscheid, L. L. Knudson, Mat Armbruster, and Ed Thebiay. The interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
