Alma Wilhelmina Swanson Ryan was born June 15, 1888 at Nas, Sweden, to Mr. and Mrs. Nels F. Swanson. She came to this country with her parents, settling at Marathon, Iowa, and soon after, moving to Eagle Grove. As a young woman, she worked in the local telephone office. She also worked awhile in Des Moines. On July 19, 1917, she married E. K. Ryan, also of Eagle Grove, with whom she observed their thirty-fifth wedding anniversary less than two weeks ago.

Preceding her in death were her parents, a sister, Ruth, and a brother, Gus. She is survived by her husband, two sons, Thomas of Des Moines, and Robert of Eagle Grove, and a daughter Jeanette, also of Eagle Grove. She is also survived by two grandchildren and by a brother, George Swanson, of Springfield, Illinois. She died after a prolonged illness, at her home early Wednesday, July 30, 1952, at the age of 64 years, one month and 16 days. Services were held Friday, August 1 at Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church.
