Susan (Sampson) Meyer died May 19, 2016, in Holland, MI. Susan was born August 26, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Rev. Perry and Helen Sampson. As a child, she lived several places including Norse, Texas and Kanawha, Iowa. Susan graduated from Wartburg College and married John Meyer in 1963. They raised 3 children while living in Mt. Vernon, IA, Albion, MI, and Allentown, PA. In 2002, they retired to Holland to be near their grandchildren.
Susan treasured her relationships, and she and John loved visiting friends and family around the country as well as in Norway. Whether a lifelong friend or new acquaintance, you were welcomed at her daily "grown-up time" to visit and share stories. Her family genealogy work and photographs leave us with a connection to both herself and family past.
Survivors include her children, Ted and Jean Meyer of Wilton, IA, Karen and Marshall Lohman and Alice and Roy Ort of Holland, MI; grandchildren, Kayla, Lindsey, Shaun, Max, Sophia and Evelyn; sister, Norah McCorkle of Omak, WA; sister-in-law, Patricia Sampson of Kanawha, IA; brother-in-law, Otto Meyer of Mendota, IL; many nieces and nephews; and her cat Anna. Preceding her in death are her husband, John Meyer; parents, Perry and Helen Sampson; and brothers, Peter and Paul Sampson.
No immediate services are planned. In August, a memorial service will take place in Garden City, Iowa. Memorial gifts may be sent to The Center for Women in Transition in Holland, MI. Arrangements handled by Lakeshore Memorial Services.
