DEATH CLAIMS JAMES L. BOYD
Father of Mrs. H. R. Norris; Victim of Heart Failure About 9:00 P. M. SundayJames L. Boyd died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. R. Norris, Sunday evening about 9:30 o'clock. Death was probably instantaneous. He had retired to his room about nine o'clock. About an hour later Mrs. Norris discovered that the light in his room was still burning. On entering the room he was found lying on the floor. A doctor was summoned and it was his opinion that Mr. Boyd had been dead perhaps a half hour. Mrs. Norris remembers hearing a slight noise in his room, similar to raising or lowering a window but thought nothing of it. Mr. Boyd had been in his usual good health all winter, except for the past three weeks when he had been bothered a little with a cold and grip. He laid off but a few days from his work in the roundhouse and worked Saturday as usual. He was 75 years of age. He was employed by the North Western at the round house, where he was beloved by both the officials and his fellow employees. He was genial and obliging with everybody. Mrs. Boyd died about six years ago. The Eagle joins the sorrowing relatives in the hour of their great affliction.
James L. Boyd was born in Ireland, July 16, 1849. His early life was spent in England, county of Durham. He was united in marriage with Miss Mary Donnely in England. They came to America about the year 1870. Thirteen children were born to this union, five of whom survive. They are Mrs. Mary Bates, Brazil, Iowa: John W. Boyd, Chadron, Neb.; Mrs. J. C. Meely, [sic. Nicely] Auburn, Kans.; Mrs. C. F. Coffin, Goodland, Kans.; Mrs. H. R. Norris, Eagle Grove. Mrs. Boyd died in Eagle Grove in 1919. Mr. Boyd was a charter member of the I.O.O.F. lodge of La Junta, Colo. He was a member of the Maintenance of Way Union and the confidence of his associates was expressed in frequently asking him to represent them in conferences with the company. He has been a faithful employee of the North Western for the past ten years. The funeral services will be held at the Congregational Church this afternoon at 2:30 and the burial in Rose Hill cemetery.
