David Luther Porterfield was born on April 5, 1891 at Violet Hill, Ark. He died at the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, on Tuesday, evening, Nov. 4, 1980, at the age of 89 years, six months and 29 days. He grew up in Arkansas and later moved to Oklahoma. On July 16, 1911 he was united in marriage with Jennie Joslen at Oklahoma City, Okla. To this union were born six children. The family lived in Oklahoma a short time and then moved to California. Mrs. Porterfield died in 1959. David was a salesman for the Butler Paper Company of Los Angeles for 38 years. He was married to Mrs. Nellie Skafte Olson on November 14, 1966 at Las Vegas, Nev. The couple lived in California and later they moved to Goldfield and for the past 11 years have lived in Eagle Grove. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Nellie, of Eagle Grove; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Thompson of San Jose, Calif.; Imogene, Mrs. Robert H. Densmore of Walnut Creek, Calif.; a son, Richard L. Porterfield of Walnut, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 19 greatgrandchildren; his brother-in-law, Lloyd B. Skafte of Goldfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and three sons, Everett, Alvin and Charles. Funeral services for David L. Porterfield were held on Friday afternoon, Nov. 7 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Rev. Walter E. Carlson officiated and burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.
