August 12, 1845 --- January 26, 1906

Mrs. Sarah C. Poole was born at Norwalk, Ohio, August 12th, 1845, her parents coming there from New York. Her death occurred Friday morning, January 26, 1906. In 1862 she was married to Jas. Poole just previous to his enlistment in the army of the Civil war. Five children were born to this union all but the youngest being born in Ohio, one being born in Indiana. Four children survive her death, three brothers and one sister. One child died in infancy. The living children were all present at the funeral. They are Fred Poole, from Chicago, Miss Maude Poole and Ed Poole, from Colorado, and H. G. Poole, of this city.

The family came to Eagle Grove in 1855 where Mr. Poole is superintendent of the Northwestern railway paint shops. The deceased was a member of the Methodist church and died in the triumphs of a Christian hope and life. She had been in ill health for some time and Thursday preceding her death a surgical operation was performed as a last hope of relief but it proved unavailing and death followed in a few hours.

The funeral was held in the Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, her pastor, Rev. C. M. Phoenix, conducting the ceremonies and preaching a most comforting sermon from the text "Precious in the Sight of the Lord is the Death of his Saints." There was a generous tribute of flowers and well rendered music.

The pall bearers were W. C. Smith, J. R. McCurry, R. France, Wm. Walters, J. S. Keith, and V. Chesmore. The burial was in Rose Hill cemetery. The bereaved husband and family have the warm sympathy of all in their great sorrow.

FAMILY TIES AGAIN SEVERED

MRS. MARY MANAHAN POOLE PASSES AWAY AT HER HOME IN IOWA

Another link has been broken in the chain which bound together the Manahan family, in the death, Friday morning at 6 o'clock, at Eagle Grove, Ia., of Mrs. Sarah Manahan Poole, wife of James Poole, both of whom were former well known residents of Norwalk. Mr. Poole will be remembered as a painter employed in the Lake Shore shops in this city.

Mrs. Poole had been afflicted for many weeks with a complication of diseases, and was pronounced incurable, and during her illness she was a great sufferer. She was a woman of quiet demeanor, lovable in character and faithful and devoted to her family as wife and mother, and her death has cast a sad gloom over many hearts who mourn her death as that of a very dear friend.

Her maiden name was Manahan and she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Manahan. She was born in Norwalk, August 12th, 1845. Besides two brothers, Thomas Manahan, of Norwalk, and Dennis Manahan, of Sioux Falls, Ia., and two sisters, Mrs. William Alley and Mrs. M. Suydam, of this city, she leaves a husband, three sons and one daughter. Of the sons, Fred Poole resides in Chicago, Harry at Eagle Grove, and Edward at Denver, the latter being in that city with his sister, Maud, who is there for her health. The two first named sons are engineers on the Rock Island road, while Mr. Poole, the husband and father, has charge of the Rock Island paint shop at Eagle Grove.

The many Norwalk friends and relatives of the Poole family extend condolence and sympathy to the bereaved ones.
