Hampton - Funeral services for Merle W. Strahorn, 68, were held Wednesday at the United Methodist Church here with Rev. Clifton Ellerbeck officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls with the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home handling arrangements. Mr. Strahorn died Sept. 19 at Franklin General Hospital after a short illness.
The son of Mr and Mrs George Strahorn, Merle Woodrow Strahorn was born Dec. 28, 1913 at Rowan. The family moved to Robertson in 1924 where he attended rural schools, later graduating from the Iowa Falls High School. He attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago and opened a radio sales and repair shop in Hampton in 1936. Later, television sales and service were added to the business, which he and his wife owned and operated until their retirement in 1976 when their son George took over the business.
Mr. Strahorn and Elizabeth Kaster were married June 24, 1938 at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Iowa Falls and lived in Hampton during their married life. They were the parents of one son Merle George at home, and a daughter, Gloria Roberts of Cedar Falls. In addition to his wife, son and daughter, he is survived by four grand children and a sister Mildred Engelkes of Ackley. His parents and a brother preceded him in death.
The deceased was a member of the United Methodist Church, Anchor Lodge No. 191 AF & FM, Anchor Chapter 69, Mason City Council No 45 R and SM, St Elmo Commandry, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and state and local Television Serviceman's Association.
