Funeral services for the late William J. Cotton, 78, were held at the Kubitschek & Kastler funeral home on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 23, the Rev. A. S. Kilbourn of the Congregational church officiating. Burial was made in Rose Hill cemetery. Two appropriate vocal selections were given by Frank Wells and Mrs. Frank Hall, with piano accompaniments by Miss Olive Cowan. The bearers were four sons: Fred and Will of Eagle Grove, Chase of Chicago, and Everett of Watertown, S. D., and two sons-in-law, Harry and Howard Schoonover of Eagle Grove. One other son, Earl, living in Stockton, Calif. was unable to be present.
Mr. Cotton was born in West Warn, Va. and was married in 1875 to Myra E. Tilton at Pennington, Ind. They came to Eagle Grove in 1895 and have lived here ever since. He was caretaker of the Garfield school on the east side for seven years, afterward following the occupation of keeper of a restaurant and confectionery, until his retirement in 1925. He is survived by the widow and the five sons named above, and by three daughters, Mrs. E. E. Grefe of Oskaloosa and Mrs. Harry and Mrs. Howard Schoonover in this city; by one sister, Orilla Cotton, Walnut Park, Calif., also by ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Those from out of the city who were here to attend the funeral of Mr. Cotton were: Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Shanor, Mrs. A. H. Packard, Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Hutchison of Mason City, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Halvorsen of Wall Lake, Mr. and Mrs. E. Grefe, Mrs. Vivian Arnold and son, Jack, and Harold Wise all of Oskaloosa; Everett Cotton of Watertown, S. D., Chase Cotton of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. C. W. Barnes of Butterfield, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Fitzpatrick, Mrs. Frank Boggs and Mrs. A. J. Shultz all of Clarion.
