September 3, 1862 --- September 6, 1948
Daisy Lee Cotton, daughter of William J. and Myra Cotton, was born at Renesselaer, Indiana, September 3, 1882. She came to Eagle Grove with her parents and brothers and sisters from Omaha, Neb., in 1895. She attended the public schools of Eagle Grove and the Congregational Sunday School and church. She was united in marriage to Howard V. Schoonover, July 23, 1902. They lived most of their married life in Eagle Grove.
Besides her membership in the Congregational church, she was a member of the order of the Eastern Star, serving as chairman of the flower committee for about twenty years. She was also a member of the United Spanish War Veterans Auxiliary No. 21, Chas. F. Brown Post, Department of Iowa. She had a genuine interest in people, helping where there was need, remembering birthdays, bringing cheer to the unfortunate, and often relieving the sting of poverty from little children.
Bell collecting has been her hobby. She knew considerable about the history of bells and has given numerous lectures to church and community groups while displaying her fine collection from many parts of the world.
She passed to immortality on September 6, 1948, at the age of 66 years and three days. She remains in tenderest memory with her husband, her ninety year old mother, two sisters, Mrs. Ed Grefe of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Mrs. Harry Schoonover of Eagle Grove; four brothers, Fred Cotton of Eagle Grove, Chase of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Earl of Stockton, Calif., and Everett of Mitchell, South Dakota. Besides her father, two brothers, Oliver and William, preceded her in death.
She leaves a void in a large circle of friendship and will be sincerely missed by a multitude of acquaintances.
