August 12, 1868 ---- April 2, 1965

Mrs. Mary Fiala was born Aug. 12, 1868 at Toledo to Martin and Katherine Benda. She was baptized shortly after birth and on April 18,, 1957 was confirmed at Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church. She died April 2 as a result of a heart condition, having attained the age of 96 years, 7 months and 20 days.

On Dec 31, 1890 she married Jacob Fiala at Tama. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Fiala lived in Ceresco, Neb. for two years, then were in Tama for several years, but spent the past 60 years in Eagle Grove. He was employed most of his life by the Chicago North Western railroad. For the past 16 years Mrs. Fiala and the Russell Knutzon family made their home together. She was preceded in death by her husband Jacob in May 2, 1946 and by their three daughters Helena, Catherine and Gertrude.

Leaving to mourn her departure are seven grandchildren: Howard Carson of Tulsa, Okla.; Josephine, Mrs. Russell Knutzon, Eagle Grove; Bonnie, Mrs Merrill Smith, Tulsa, Okla.; Bettie, Mrs. Bert Ballinger, Austin, Texas; George Sullivan, Tulsa, Okla; Edythe, Mrs. Lloyd Varney, Los Angeles, Calif; Loretta, Mrs. David Shaw, Van Nuys, Calif.; 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 5 at Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church, H. W. Schiller, pastor. Interment followed at Rose Hill Cemetery.
