April 15, 1847 --- November 4, 1930
The Rev. C. B. Winter died at the Thos. Heddon home in this city, Tuesday morning, Nov. 4, about 10:30 o'clock. For the past several years he had been failing in health and recently a stroke rendered him practically helpless. The Rev. Winter was one of the most beloved and best known among the early pioneer ministers of Northwest Iowa. He was a circuit rider in the early days and a charter member of the Northwest Iowa conference. He served as secretary of that organization for a number of years. He was pastor of the Methodist church here about 46 years ago when the church building was destroyed by a cyclone. He immediately organized a drive for funds and built the church which was removed three years ago to make room for the magnificent new edifice. About 25 years ago, the failing health of Mrs. Winter [Elsie (Young) Winter], caused him to ask to be placed on the voluntary retired list at which time he moved his family back to Eagle Grove where he has made his home since. Mrs. Winter died 13 years ago. One son, George Winter of Belle Plaine, survives. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church this Thursday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. W. G. Muhleman and the masons in charge.
