December 4, 1880 --- September 18, 1948

George Winter, 66, died Saturday evening at his home 303 West 7th Street North. Mr. Winter had been in failing health this summer and for the past week had suffered intensely, but was not considered critically ill until the end came at about ten p. m. Saturday. He is survived by his wife. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Kastler Funeral Home, in charge of the Rev. B. A. Rust, pastor of the Baptist church in Britt. Burial was in the Winter family lot Rose Hill cemetery.

Mr. Winter was the son of the late Rev. and Mrs. C. B. Winter [mother Elsie (Young) Winter]. His father being a Methodist minister, Mr. Winter was reared in a parsonage home under Christian influence. With his parents he resided in Hartley, LuVerne, Sibley and Eagle Grove where Rev. Winter served the Methodist churches. He became an employee of the C&NW while a young man, and when the C&NW shops were moved from here he was transferred to Belle Plaine.

Mr. and Mrs. Winter were married on Feb. 27, 1927, [wife Lula Mable McDonough] and for fifteen years resided in Belle Plaine, Iowa, where Mr. Winter was chief clerk for the C&NW Master Mechanic. When the shops were removed from there, he was returned by the company to Eagle Grove, where Mr. and Mrs. Winter have resided for nine years. Mr. Winter retired on pension in July, 1947.

Mr. Winter was a member of the Baptist church in Belmond, and was a 32nd degree Mason. The rites of the Masonic Lodge were given at the funeral service. Pall bearers were Robert Blimey, Geo. Eckoff, John Spitler, Belmond; Wm. Abbas and John Abbas, Dows, and John Van Haaften, Clarion.
