Earnest M. Peters Jr., 81, of Jefferson City, Missouri, and formerly of Dows, died March 24, 2016, at his home in Jefferson City. Graveside memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 8, at the Fairview Cemetery in Dows. Pastor Bill Kem will officiate. Military graveside rites will be provided by the Dows American Legion Watson Beach Post No. 523. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at the United Presbyterian Church in Clarion. Dugger Funeral Home, 100 N. Lee St., Dows, is in charge of arrangements.

Earnest, the son of Earnest and Katherine Schlagel Peters was born June 17, 1934 in Belmond. He grew up in Dows, where he attended school. Ernie graduated from Dows High School in 1952. After high school Earnest served in the United States Marine Corps. After returning home, Earnest was united in marriage to Shirley McDermmot. The couple made their home in Dows and were blessed with two children, LuAnne and Steven. Ernie lived and worked as a carpenter in Dows. Shirley passed away in 2001. After Shirley’s death, Earnest moved to Jefferson City, MO. He lived there until his death. Earnest is survived by his son, Steven of Clarion. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley and daughter, LuAnne in 2014.
