Marie Hasselbusch, 97, of Geneseo, IL, passed away at Hammond-Henry Long Term Care in Geneseo on Tuesday, April 5, 2016. According to her wishes, Cremation Rites have been accorded by Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be at the family plot at St. John’s Cemetery in Clarence, IA. Memorials may be made to Hammond-Henry Hospital Extended Care.
Marie was born in Shellsburg, IA on September 27, 1918 to Glenn and Leona Freeman. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School. She was employed by Knapp and Company of Cedar Rapids, IA. She married Arlo Hasselbusch on June 22, 1946 in Cedar Rapids, IA. They raised their family in East Moline, IL where they joined the First Presbyterian Church, East Moline, IL on Palm Sunday, April 14, 1957. Marie was an active church member and a strong Christian. She was devoted to her faith and her family. Marie enjoyed singing, sewing, quilting, gardening, and cooking for her family.
Survivors include daughters: Pam (Steve) Durian, Geneseo, IL, Arlis (Paul) Ander, Naples, FL, Cyndi (Larry) Espel, Golden Valley, MN; son: Jim (Becky) Hasselbusch, Moline, IL; grandchildren: Scott (Julie) Durian, Eric (Tammy) Durian, Jane (Cody) Van Fleet, Ryan (Kiki) Ander, Megan Ander, Chris (Shana) Ander, Julia (Ken) Chang, Hallie Espel, Jamei (Adam) Meier, Jack (Allison Schuette) Hasselbusch; great grandchildren: Ethan and Alex Durian, Caleb and Grace Durian, Brielle and Emery Van Fleet, Griffin Ander, and Kaylie and Logan Chang. She was preceded in death by her husband Arlo; her parents; brothers: Claire, Jerry, Bill, and Glenn, Jr.; sisters: Mardelle Gartner, Margaret Stange, and Arlene Johnson.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Hammond-Henry Long Term Care for their outstanding care for so many years. They have become a part of our extended family and will always hold a special spot in our hearts.
