Mrs. Serina Weland was born on April 21, 1862, to parents Nels and Bertha Ulstad near Stavanger, Norway, and was baptized in infancy in Hjelmbu Lutheran church, Stavanger, Norway. She died on August 27, 1938, at her home on North 7th St, Eagle Grove, at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 5 days. In 1834 she together with her parents migrated to Creston, Ill., where she was confirmed in the Lutheran church. She was married to Thomas Weland, Jan 18, 1880, at Creston, Ill., and moved to Wright county in 1882, where they were occupied with farming near Holmes, Iowa. To this union were born ten children, eight daughters and two sons, Anna, Bert, Rose, Sadie, Emma, Tillie, Cora, Clara, Silas and Selma. Her husband, Thomas Weland, three daughters, Cora, Clara, Selma, one son, Silas and one brother have preceded her in death.
She is survived by five daughters, one son and four brothers: Mrs. Anna Lund, Boyed, Minn., Rose Weland, Canon City, Colo., Mrs. Sadie Amosson, Goldfield, Mrs. Emma Reynolds, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Tillie Simpson, Eagle Grove, Bert Weland, Eagle Grove, one niece, Mrs. Majorie Worland, of Thor, who had made her home with the Weland's, four brothers, Oscar and Sam Ulstad, Holmes, Nels Ulstad of Fort Dodge and Martin Ulstad of Goldfield, besides 21 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
During the years of her early womanhood, Mrs. Weland experienced conversion. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and continued in the faith and fellowship with her savior and with the children of God till the end of her life. She was a dutiful, faithful and loving wife and mother who will be greatly missed by her family and by her many relatives and friends.
