Tillie Weland, the daughter of Thomas and Serena Ulstad Weland, was born July 20, 1898, at Holmes, Iowa. She attended the country school near Holmes. On January 23, 1924, she was married to Clifford Simpson of Danville, Ill. at Denver, Colo. Following their marriage they made their home in Eagle Grove. Mr. Simpson died in 1955. Tillie died Sunday, September 4 at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City at the age of 79 years, one month, and 14 days. Survivors include two sons: Ray M. Simpson, El Paso, Tex.; William T. Simpson, Cedar Falls; two sisters: Emma Reynolds, Seal Beach, Calif.; Marjorie Warland, Eagle Grove; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford; six sisters: Cora, Clara, Selma, Anna, Sadie, and Rose; two brothers: Bert and Silas; also one daughter, Susan. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Worthwhile Class and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 6, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church. Rev. Donald Callen officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
