December 21, 1897 ---- May 28, 1974

Oscar S. Mellgren, 76, died at his home, 500 So. Iowa Ave. Tuesday morning following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon in the United Methodist Church in charge of Rev. Don Glazier. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, where the American Legion will conduct the grave side rites. The Masonic service was held at 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.

Mr. Mellgren is survived by his wife; sons, Donald of Falls Church, Va., Robert of Swisher; two daughters, Mrs. Stuart Sanders of Torrance, Calif, and Mrs. Roger Derscheid of Eagle Grove. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, one brother John of Lincoln, Neb.; six sisters, Misses Hazel and Josephine Mellgren of Minneapolis, Mrs. Blanche Barker, Clarion; Mrs. Joe Askvig, Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. Bernice McCoy, Des Moines; and Mrs. Albert Hanson of Belmond.

Mr. Mellgren was a life long resident of Wright County. He was born in Holmes, but moved to Eagle Grove as a young man and was employed by the Chicago and North Western Railroad. Mr. and Mrs. Mellgren celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last July.
