Thomas Lloyd Benedict was born August 27,1888, at Henry, Ill., the son of Albert and Nettie Bailee Benedict. He attended school at Henry, Ill. and in Georgia. He was united in marriage to Alice Anita Shurtz of Eagle Grove on June 2, 1915, at her parents home in Eagle Grove. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove where Mr. Benedict was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad as a conductor, until retiring on Dec. 19, 1953. He passed away at the Trinity West Hospital, Fort Dodge, on Saturday, Dec. 7, 1974 at the age of 86 years, three months, and ten days. He had been a patient for five days prior to his death. He is survived by his wife, and one daughter, Dorothy, Mrs. Bernard Collins of Clarion; two granddaughters; one great grandchild; one brother, Merton Benedict, Shiloh, Ohio; and one sister, Fern, Mrs. Jack High, Shelby, Ohio. Mr. Benedict was a member of the United Church of Christ, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, member of the White Shrine, Chapter and Council, and The United Trainman's Union. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, at the United Church of Christ, Eagle Grove. Rev. Emmett Braselton officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Masonic services were held at the Kastler-Babcock-DeYoung Funeral Home on Monday at 8 p.m.
