January 2, 1891 ---- August 10, 1974

BROOKINGS, SD – Mrs. H. A. (Isadore) Brooking, 83, died Saturday at her home in rural Brookings. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the First United Presbyterian Church, Brookings, with the Rev Lee James officiating and Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the first United Methodist Church, Onida, with the Rev. Eldon Reich officiating. Burial will be in the Onida Cemetery.

Mrs. Brooking, the former Isadore Hayes, was born Jan. 2, 1891, in Goldfield, Iowa. She came to South Dakota to teach. She was married to Herbert A. Brooking, Oct. 29, 1907, at Onida, where their four children were born. Following her husband’s death in 1945 she was employed in the State Library at Pierre for 15 years, two years of that time in Highmore. She lived at Brookings since 1962. Active in Extension Clubs, Mrs. Brookings helped found the state organization of which she was a past president. She was a past regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a 50-year member of the Order of eastern Star.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ardis L. Gatons, Huron, Mrs. Burnett (Beatrice) Olson), Brookings and Mrs. J. W. (Doris) Vos, White River; one son, James Brooking, Onida; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Harold Hayes, Custer.
