November 18, 1897 --- March 2, 1906

On Friday, March 2nd, Joseph, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Brassfield, of Hardy, [Iowa] aged nine years and five months. He was buried in the Catholic cemetery south of Livermore, Father Castello officiating. Little Joseph had suffered for about a year from tumor of the brain caused by a fall. All that loving hands and medical skill could do for the little fellow had been done, but to no avail. He had been taken to the hospital at Rochester, Minn., and was at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines for some time under the care of three eminent physicians.

He was a very bright and promising youth until the fatal accident and being of a bright and sunny disposition he bore his sufferings without even a complaint and when too weak to speak would recognize his friends with a smile when they approached his bedside. The bereaved parents have the unbounded sympathy of a very large circle of friends in their sorrow and affliction.
