October 22, 1887 ---- May 13, 1975

Joseph Wernet was born October 22, 1887, at Shelbyville, Shelby County, Ill., the son of Xavier and Priscilla Banks Wernet. The family came by freight train to Woolstock in 1896, and settled on a farm near there. Joe attended country school near Woolstock and worked with his father until he was 21.

He was united in marriage to Ida Elizabeth Newcomb of Eagle Grove on Feb. 17,1909. The couple farmed for several years before moving to Eagle Grove, where Joe operated a milk route and nursery for a number of years. Mrs. Wernet died June 1, 1968. He was married to Grace Trask Irelan on September 25, 1969 He passed away on Tuesday, May 13, at the Sisson Nursing Home, Humboldt, at the age of 87 years, seven months and 21 days.

He is survived by his wife; one brother, Andrew Wernet, Britt; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Ensley, Salem, Ore. and Mrs. Mary Enfield, Clear Lake. He was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents, three brothers, Tom, Robert and Henry and one sister, Edith.

He was a member of the Baptist Church having been baptized December 2, 1925. Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 15, 1975, at 11:00 a.m. in the Kastler-Babcock-De Young Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Rev. Albert Snyder of Bushnell, Ill., officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
