Florence Genevieve Culmer was the second of six children born to Dallas Haymond Culmer and Ella Beshey Culmer. Florence was born on June 6, 1906 in Clarion, Iowa. She had three sisters, Velma, Hattie, Marian and two brothers, Lowell and Clyde. The family lived in Dows, Clarion and Iowa Falls where Dallas would work in grocery stores. In 1918, Ella's father, Frank L. Beshey, gave the family a farm near Woolstock, Iowa. Frank had emigrated from France to the US around 1854 and was able to accumulate eleven farms and gave each of his eleven children a 120 acre farm. Florence lived with the family on the farm until 1924 to live with her Grandmother Jane Beshey and attend high school in Eagle Grove. In 1925, Florence moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Florence attended Drake University for a time. .. Florence worked as a maid at 420 51st Street in Des Moines for an EJ Harnagel. Florence married Howard G. Boot on March 13, 1929. They divorced... On August 14, 1943, Florence marries Wesley C. Cleaveland. They live in several places in Minnesota and finally settle in Crystal Bay, Minnesota. Florence was a loving step-mother to Robert R. and Sandra Cleaveland. Florence was only 54 when she passed away from heart problems. Her husband Wesley would remarry and live for another 45 years.
