February 23, 1924 --- May 27, 1980

Ione Calkins went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 27, 1980 in Ames Hospital after a short battle with skin cancer. Ione Susan Calkins was the seventh of ten children born to Samuel and Gertrude Brown Calkins. She was born February 23, 1924 in Webster City, Iowa. Her birth name was Iona but she changed it after she graduated from Webster City High School in 1942. Ione moved to Los Angeles where most of her family moved during WW II. She worked for the Bell Telephone Company for three years. She met Clyde Culmer in Los Angeles during the war. They had grown up ten miles apart but never met in Iowa. They married On January 20, 1946 in California.

Clyde and Ione were married in Los Angeles, California. The couple returned to Woolstock where Clyde owned and operated Culmer Electric. Ione was the bookkeeper for Culmer Electric and was also employed as the secretary of Utilities for the city of Woolstock.

Her Calkins' siblings were James, Arthur, Earl, Lyle, Bill and sisters, Esther, Neva, Evelyn, and Thelma. Ione and Clyde had four children and twelve grandchildren. Their children were Stephen, Nancy, Susan and Daniel. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandchild, Cecilia Ann Culmer.

One of Ione's greatest joys was sharing her Love of God!
