Clyde Dell Culmer, son of Dallas and Ella Beshey Culmer, was born June 7, 1921 in Woolstock. At the age of 12, he started working at Jones Hardware in Woolstock. He graduated from Woolstock Public School in 1941. In WWII, he served in the US Army Radar-artillery, 143rd AAA Gun Battalion in the European Theatre. On January 20, 1946, he married Ione Susan Calkins in Los Angeles, California. The couple returned to Woolstock to raise their family. In 1961, Clyde started Culmer Electric which also included heating and cooling. Ione died May 27, 1980. Clyde married Mavis Bohy Ratcliff on September 5, 1981 in Las Vegas. The couple resided in Webster City. Clyde retired in 1985. Mavis died June 18, 1994. On June 9, 1995, Clyde married Gladys Laugerman Dyvig in Webster City. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Ione and Mavis, four sisters, Velma, Florence, Hattie, Marian, one brother, Lowell, and his granddaughter, Cecilia Ann Culmer. Clyde was a loving father and grandfather. He had four children and eleven grandchildren. Clyde was a member of the United Methodist Church. He was a city council member at Woolstock for 22 years,a member of the American Legion Post #533 for 55 years and a member of the Ban de la Roche Club. Clyde was an active member of the community, he loved visiting with people and loved God.
