Services were held here Saturday, August 15, at the Siloam Lutheran church for Roy Mitchell, age 75, a Paullina resident for many years, who died August 11. The Rev. P. L. Kvitne was in charge of the services. Judy Briggie, organist, accompanied Mrs. Don Hagen of Primghar, soloist. Pallbearers were Howard Halstrom, Richard Wiese, Vernon Halstrom, Gabe Hompland, Martin Axdahl and Karl Berensmann. Burial was in the Waterman Cemetery at Sutherland under the direction of the Gaudian Funeral Home.
LeRoy Sample Mitchell, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sample Mitchell, was born Nov. 26, 1883 at Eagle Grove and died August 11, 1959 at the Myrl Nursing Home in Primghar, thus reaching the age of 75 years, 8 1/2 months. Mr Mitchell had been in failing health the past two years but had been a resident at the home only a week. As a young man he came to the Sutherland community and worked in the plumbing trade, later coming to Paullina where he was employed as a plumber at Jacobs Hardware here for many years until he retired. In the year 1904 he was married to Bessie Tillitt and to them were born four sons, Harold, Dale, Clark and Gail. Dale died in infancy and Harold passed away in Nov. 1952. Mrs. Bessie died in December of 1933. Mr. Mitchell married Inga Axdahl in 1942.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Clark of Hugoton, Kansas, and Gail of Downey, Calif.; seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; and two sisters, Miss Helen Mitchell of Eagle Grove and Mrs. Florence Rossiter of Carbondale, Ill.
