C. Emery Spangler, son of W. Homer and Julia Larson Spangler, was born June 30, 1906, at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He attended a country school and the Eagle Grove High School. On February 10,1932, Emery was united in marriage with Thelma Helen Hull of Clarion. They were married at Eagle Grove. Emery was employed by the Eagle Grove Creamery until 1936 at which time he engaged in farming at Eagle Grove. In 1951, he retired and he and Thelma moved to Eagle Grove.

Emery died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 1979 at the age of 72, at the Rotary Ann Home, Eagle Grove. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Masonic Lodge. Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Bernice. Survivors include his wife, Thelma; two sons, Jerry of Glendale, Ariz., and Dennis of Hooper, Neb.; three grandchildren and two brothers, James and Kenneth of Eagle Grove.

The members of the Masonic Lodge held a service for Mr. Spangler at 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Kastler-Babcock-DeYoung Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rev. Kenneth Torvik and Rev. Marvin Berkeland officiated and burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery.
