Charles Lee Darland, the son of Erwin L. and Margaret I. (Baker) Darland, was born December 29, 1946 in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was educated in Eagle Grove and joined the United States Navy shortly after. A Vietnam Veteran, Charles spent 20 years traveling the world while serving his country.

Charles was a member of the V.F.W. in Eagle Grove and enjoyed traveling, fishing, golfing, gardening and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered as being a man with an opinion and letting you know what it is whether you asked for it or not.

Charles passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames at the age of 69 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Daryl, James and Gary and a nephew, Mike. Survivors include his children: Christine Darland of Talent, OR, Chad Darland of Grayson, KY, Jessica Darland of Grayson, KY and Leeria Larranga of Eagle Grove; 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; sisters, Barbara (Bud) Crose of Arizona, Alice (Kent) Ekstrom of Minnesota; brother, Allen (Rose) Darland of Eagle Grove and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016, at United Church of Christ (New Hope Lutheran Church) in Eagle Grove with Pastor Susan Stone officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
