Lulu Frances Sterling, the daughter of John R. and Anna Campbell Hughes was born on February 2, 1891 at Webster City, Iowa. She died at the Marian Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Saturday afternoon, November 7, 1981 at the age of 90 years, 9 months and 5 days. She received her high school and college education at Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa. She was united in marriage with Harold Sterling of Eagle Grove on May 15, 1915 at Cedar Falls, Iowa. To this union were born three children. The family lived in Eagle Grove, where they owned and operated the Sterling Hardware Store. Mr. Sterling died in 1948. Mrs. Sterling had been a resident of the Marion Home since June, 1977. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart Guild, Women's Club, Music Club and Catholic Daughters of America.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Sterling of Eagle Grove; her son, John J. Sterling of Eagle Grove; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son, Harold E. Sterling, who died in 1955.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lulu F. Sterling were held on Tuesday morning, November 10,1981 at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Fr. John Hemann officiated and burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Rosary services were held at 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Monday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
