Ertle Geneva Anderson passed away peacefully at age 100 on Tuesday, February 23, at Fort Dodge Health & Rehab. Ertle was born July 26, 1915, in Vincent, Iowa, the only daughter of George & Ella (Hill) DeWinter, who preceded her in death, as did her only brother Walter DeWinter. She graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1932 and then worked at Kresges, having a department in her charge. On March 31, 1935, she married Morris Anderson, with whom she shared 72 years of marriage & six children before he passed away November 21, 2007. They partnered in farming at the same rural route Fort Dodge address their whole lives. As needs arose, Ertle worked 'in town' at several businesses, Oleson Jewelry, Larson's Clothing, Wahkonsa Hotel, Treloars Inn and Starlight, from which she retired at age 80 A summer job she often held was leading girls' corn detasseling crews.

She was involved in the Webster Co. Women's Chorus, as a girls' 4-H leader and in circle activities & quilting at First Presbyterian Church. Always industrious, she sewed, crocheted, baked, cooked and made special dishes as gifts for birthdays & anniversaries. A couple favorite activities were picking out & playing popular tunes on the piano and feeding & observing the varieties of birds that came to her feeders. Somehow with all her working, she nurtured & raised her six children and also cared for her ailing parents & husband as the need arose.

Surviving children are: Marilyn (John) Horvath, Elkhart, IN; Ronald (Norma) Anderson, Fort Dodge, IA; Roger (Carol) Anderson, Marengo, IA; Twila Buffington, Mebane, NC; David (Jeannie) Anderson, Fort Dodge, IA; Becky (Tom) Johnson, Mystic, IA. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 25 great- grandchildren, 22 great- great-grandchildren, & 1 great-great-great grandchild who live in Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, Arizona, & North Carolina.

She was a humble, caring, loving woman who is revered & will be sorely missed by her large family.

A service celebrating Ertle's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Austin Hill officiating. Family interment services will be held at North Lawn Cemetery. The visitation is 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.
