Joe Severson, 76, Webster City, died Saturday, June 1, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, June 5, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Rev. James Duster officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. A rosary service will be held Tuesday, June 4, at 7:30 p.m. at the Foster Funeral home, followed by a scripture service at 8 p.m. Visitation at the funeral home will be after 8 a.m. Tuesday, until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Joseph Irven Severson, son of Otis and Selma (Lonning) Severson, was born June 13, 1914 in Thor. He received his education in Eagle Grove. He married Arkelle Welch on June 15, 1935, in Webster City. The couple farmed southwest of Webster City. She preceded him in death on July 2, 1968. He married Mary Helen Woods on Sept. 11, 1969, in Webster City. The couple farmed north of Webster City.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Helen, Webster City; a daughter, Janet Severson Rowe, Missoula, Mont.; four grandchildren, Marty and Andy Rowe, both of Clarion; Scott Rowe, Seattle, Wash.; and Arkelle Hagan, Missoula; five grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Severson, Mesa, Ariz.; and two stepsisters, Lois (Mrs. Harold) Melia, Tonganoxie, Kan., and Betty (Mrs. Allen) Baird, of Oregon. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Kermit, in infancy. Mr. Severson was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Webster City.
