August 26, 1904 ---- August 30, 1985

Lillian Josephine Maakestad, daughter of Joseph and Jane Lorraine, was born at Clarion, Iowa, on August 29, 1903, and passed away at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital, Superior, Nebraska, August 31, 1985, at the age of 82 years and 5 days. She was one of 12 children and had no living brothers or sisters at the time of her passing.

Lillian was united in marriage to Harry Maakestad at Clarion, Iowa, on July 7, 1919. Their home was blessed with 6 children. They lived in Omaha, Nebraska; Los Angeles, California; and Grants Pass, Oregon. At the time of her death she was a member of the Legion Auxiliary of Nelson, Nebraska, the World War I Auxiliary and Blue Star Mothers of Grants Pass, Oregon, and the St. Anns Catholic Church of Grants Pass, Oregon, where she had been a member for 20 years. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, 8 brothers, 3 sisters and one son, Harry, Jr.

Her survivors include 3 sons, Don and his wife Robyn of Garden Grove, California, Bill and his wife Elsie of Needles, California, Gilbert and his wife Dorothy of Grants Pass, Oregon; and 2 daughters, Mrs. Victor (Lorraine) Nielsen of Nelson, Nebraska, and Mrs. Frank (Agnes) Bradley of Fresno, California. Also 20 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 2, 1985, at 10:00 a.m. from Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nelson, Nebraska, with Father Frank Machovec officiating. Lorraine Rempe, organist, provided meditative selections before and afteer (sic) tative selections before and after the service. (NOTE: typed as written in newspaper) Casketbearers were Howard Nielsen, Lynn Nielsen, Jerry Elsasser, Scott Saalfeld, Mike Nielsen and Gene Garvin. Burial was in the Hawthorne Memorial Gardens, Grants Pass, Oregon. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson, Nebraska, was in charge of the local arrangements.
