George A. Lund was born at Thor, Iowa, on February 10, 1888, the son of Samson and Hannah (Korslund) Lund. He was baptized at Thor. His early years were spent in the village of his birth, Thor, Iowa. Here he attended the public school and assisted his father in the local post office. In the year 1901, the Lunds moved to Minnesota, settling on a farm in Tyro Township, four miles west of Clarkfield. Here George made his home until young manhood. In 1912 he accepted a position as assistant manager of the Farmers Elevator in Clarkfield, a position he held until entering the Army in 1917. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to his hometown and on June 11, 1919, married Miss Josephine Hanson, also of Clarkfield. They have one son, Dr. George Lund, of Salinas, California.

Re-entering the grain business upon his return from World War I, Mr. Lund formed a partnership with Mr. Elmer Silver, under the firm name of "Clarkfield Roller Mills Company". In recent years Mr. Lund has been associated with the grain commission firm, Dinham - Seim of Minneapolis.

Mr. Lund has been a member of the Clarkfield Evangelical Lutheran Church since boyhood, having been confirmed by Rev. O. C. Farseth. He loved his church and served it in many ways. For several years he served very efficiently as secretary, and at his death was vice president of his congregation. Always active and interested in the affairs of his community, he never shirked a responsibility. He was village clerk, and for many years held the position of secretary of the city Fire Department. He was a charter member of J. Ben Johnson Post of the American Legion.

Surviving Mr. Lund are his wife, Josephine; son, Dr. George Lund, Jr., his wife and two grandchildren; his aged mother, Mrs. Hannah Lund; four sisters: Mrs. Otis Payne and Mrs. Elmer Haaland of Clarkfield, Mrs. Oscar Miller of Boyd, Minnesota, and Mrs. Willis Johnson of Chester Iowa; five brothers: Joseph and Clarence of Clarkfield, Hendrick of Canby, Minnesota, Peder of Wausoa, Wisconsin, and Wilhelm of Kenneth, Minnesota.
