Helen Christine Odland was born December 30, 1905, the daughter of Henry and Christina Stave Odland at Clarion. She grew up in Clarion where she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was educated in a rural Lake Township school and graduated from Clarion High School.

She was united in marriage to James Franklin of Eagle Grove on January 30, 1926 at Clarion. The young couple lived and farmed southwest of Eagle Grove until retiring and moving to Eagle Grove. She was a member of the Samuel Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove. She moved to the Rotary Ann Home, Eagle Grove, in 1962.

Helen Franklin died June 24, 1991 at the age of 85 years, five months, and 24 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Mabel Rasmussen; and four brothers, Elmer, Clarence, Chester and Howard. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Velma) Nelson, Eagle Grove; four grandchildren, Francis, San Jose, Calif.; Wayne, Merlin, Oregon; Mrs. James (Wanda) Kinney, San Diego, Calif.; and Charles, Webster City; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Irwin Odland, Eagle Grove; three sisters, Mrs. Peter (Harriett) Kruse, Parkersburg; Mrs. Lyle (Luella) Pippert, Nora Springs; and Mrs. Wendell (Irene) Sims, Tucson, Ariz.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 27, at the Samuel Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove. The Rev. Carlton Shaw officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
