Irvin M. Odland died on Friday, September 20, 2002, at the USA Health Care in Clarion, Iowa, at the age of 85. Survivors include his wife, Mabel, Eagle Grove, Iowa; two daughters, Ruth Anderson, and husband, Steve, Boone, Iowa, and Kathryn Bottjen, and husband, Dr. Burt, Algona, Iowa; three sons. Dr. Duane Odland and wife, Donita, Wasilla, Alaska, Kenneth Odland, and wife, Jane, Newton, Iowa, Mark Odland, and wife, Pamela, Dows, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and one greatgrandson. Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Elmer, Chester, Clarence, and Howard Odland; and five sisters, Mabel Rasmussen, Helen Franklin, Harriet Kruse, Luella Pippert, and Irene Sims.

Irvin M. Odland, the son of Henry and Christina (Stave) Odland, was born on November 23,1916, on a farm northeast of Holmes, Iowa. He attended rural country schools. He served in the United States Army during World War II, July of 1941 to July of 1945. He was in the Invasion of Africa, and awarded a Silver Star for saving a life. He was united in marriage to Mabel O. Jacobson on February 23, 1946, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Humboldt County. He farmed in Wright and Humboldt Counties. He dairy farmed for about ten years, retiring in 1983 and moved to their home west of Eagle Grove. He was a member of the Samuel Lutheran Church of Eagle Grove, serving as trustee and church deacon. He was a member of VFW Post #642, Eagle Grove.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.
