ORLEANS, Indiana - Delbert Gerkin, 75, of Orleans died Tuesday, October 7, at Mitchell Manor in Mitchell. Born June 26, 1928, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, he was the son of Jay H. and Sarah (Thomas) Gerkin. He married Doris Poindexter on September 14, 1951, and she preceded him in death on February 25, 1997. He married Nora Wiseman Goebel on December 10, 1998, and she survives. He was owner, along with his brother, of Gerkin Farms in Orleans. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, the Orange County Farm Bureau and the Gideons International. He graduated from Orleans High School with the class of 1946.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Ruth Ann Gerkin of Mitchell; his sister, Fern Carter; three grandchildren, Whitney Dunahee of Orleans, Ashley Roberts of Mitchell and John Isaac Gerkin of Mitchell; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Franklin Gerkin.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 10, at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home of Orleans with the Rev. Joey Aberholt officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Orleans. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International in memory of Mr. Gerkin.
