December 27, 1916 ---- March 12, 2008
Ruth (Oswood) Blankenship of Lee's Summit, beloved wife, mother and Granny Ruth, began her heavenly journey on March 12, 2008. Ruth was born on Dec. 27, 1916 in Burdette, Iowa. After her graduation from Galt Iowa High School, she married Rex Blankenship on June 14, 1935 and they were able to celebrate 70 years together living in Eagle Grove, Iowa, Muskogee and Wagoner Okla., and Bullhead City, Ariz. They moved to Lee's Summit in 1993 to be near one of their daughters.
She loved the Christmas season and everyone she knew received homemade goodies- the mailman, milkman, neighbors and anyone she thought might enjoy them. She was especially noted for her sticky cinnamon-pecan rolls and her famous melt-in-your- mouth sugar cookies. Among her many talents she was best know for crochet. Many of her afghans, doilies, ponchos and snowflakes can be found throughout the U.S. Her green thumb resulted in beautiful flowers inside and outside her home. Ruth was a homemaker who was devoted to her husband and children but found time to be very active in her church. She inherited from her father a love of fishing which she passed on to her great grandson, Jake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William R. and Ethel Oswood, and her husband, Rex. She is survived by her daughters, Kay Ford (Mike) of Lee's Summit and Elaine Prior (Jerry) of Oklahoma City, Okla.; grandson, Michael Prior; and great grandson Jake Prior.
Graveside services took place on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Flora Hills East Cemetery, in Lee's Summit. Donations may be made to Lee's Summit Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 800 N.E. Tudor Road, in Lee's Summit. Arrangements: Langsford Funeral Home.
